What counts for biologists is the family, what makes them look alike and similar biologicaly, not the literal meaning of the word for OLD latin speakers, so, felidae has nothing to do with literal cats (felis silvestris catus), but with the new use for this word, which means cat family/cat-like. So, deny as you can, but cheetahs will still be broadly, feles (in the new meaning of the word) and what counts is how they perceive it in new latin, not the restrict and poorly translated word "cat" used by english speakers. Even in english cat is already not so a restrictive word, the expression "big cat(s)" always existed.
