I've been playing all kinds of games for years, and the erosion of in-game content to be gated off by microtransactions, DLC and season passes is very real. Activision, EA, Ubisoft and the rest rely on us being apathetic about it to make it worse, and we're left with a shell of a game sold at $60 with everything worth a damn being sold afterward. And that's even before they add free-to-play economies in there with microtransactions and fucking loot boxes.
At the very least, when Nintendo did start adding DLC to games like Smash Bros, it was new content being added long after the game came out, not just content that was carved out of the base game. For all of its faults, Nintendo is one of the few game companies I can still reasonably trust to not take the piss out of their main games for extra cash.
