Has Smogon ever banned a defensive Pokémon? I only ever recall them banning offensive threats like Mega Gengar, Mega Lucario, Dugtrio (I realize it helped stall, but it is an offensive mon nonetheless), Mega Salamence, etc.

The funny thing is that while Deoxys-D is a defensive Pokémon, the reason it was banned was because it helped hyper offense a lot. Kind of the opposite of Dugtrio.

I believe Deoxys Speed is useless outside of setting up hazards, so yeah, that's pretty much the reason.

Defensive pokemon are only as good as the pokemon they wall, and it's much easier for GF to design pokemon that kill everything than wall everything.

This meme is retarded. Mega Sableye is still banned from the ORAS OU Ladder and Tournaments which still have a very big playerbase.
And it's not like you could argue it's still broken in Gen 7 since it's about to drop into UU lol.

I wouldn't really count box legends since they are always automatically uber, so I disregard things like Giratina, Lugia, and Arceus even though it is not a box legend, but it does have that high and mighty legendary status. I meant more along the lines of regular mons. some mythicals/lesser legends, and mega evolutions, sorry for not clarifying that. I wouldn't also count Aegislash since its role is more offensive than passive, but I can see how it goes both ways. I would love for Toxapex to be banned, though. Let's see how it goes.

What is your stance on gothitelle then? It was used on both stall and offense but Gothitelle itself was a defensive pokemon.

I guess it depends on their function. Trapping Pokémon like Gothitelle and Dugtrio are used to kill and not really to sponge hits/wall things, and they also do not serve as clerics, so I'd say they are offensive for the most part.

In the sense that they used to be OU or in any tier other than Uber, but were suspected and banned. Stuff that is automatically Uber like many box legends do not count.
