This. I'm okay with some of them being pink or girly, as fairies have come to be associated with those things these days, but I'd like more old school fair folk too.

But in all seriousness, I think fairy is perfect for objectmons that are alive due to some magic power. Magnemite or Klink obviousy wouldn't work since they're made from technology, but something like Carbink and Clefki fits the type perfectly.

This. Fairies should either be elegant (Xerneas and Ninetales), cute BUT mischievous in terms of lore (Klefki, Whimsicott, Mawile), or just plain weird (Mimikyu, Shiinotic, the Tapu).

I don't really like how many fairies AREN'T falling into those categories right now. Like why the hell is Dedenne a fairy?

Dedenne has the round cuteness of other fairy types (Jigglypuff, Clefairy) and the size of typical fairies (Flabebe). Fairy used as an adjective can refer to small sizes (ie. fairy penguins). It's even shorter than Pichu.
