Story is not a valid reason to like Pokémon. If you play Pokémon for the story, or actively desire for more narrative content to be featured in the games, you are not a real Pokémon fan.

It wouldn't even be so bad if the stories from nuGamefreak weren't so wack-ass and disjointed. The 3DS games gutted exploration and treasure hunting (except for ORAS, which was a remake) in favor of cutscenes.

XY is pretty much what /vp/ wanted at the time because the board was overly anal about competitive play and smogon. However after everyone could easily train pokemon, smogon changed their shit and the majority of the board got dejected again and then realized that the game was shallow aside from online play.

In short the bulk of /vp/ don't know what the hell they want from a game.

The only character that I can think of that she is more popular than is Leaf and Hilda and for Hilda that's only because HGSS came out soon after and everyone moved onto Mei, and she never got an anime counterpart. In comparison she is nowhere near the popularity of Dawn or May
