Getting you prepped for NDex numbers being retconned in Gen 8. Cross-gen evo relatives will be next to each other. USUM UBs will be placed before Necrozma. Arceus will be #000.

Only regional Dex numbers like everything else. Pokemon.com has Poipole through Blace as 803-806.

Because the national dex was meaningless. The only way to complete it is by transferring from previous generations, which doesn't add any gameplay. It's inclusion would add nothing to the game besides requiring you to move things from bank into the game just to move them back out.

Now they don't have to bother coding all the entries and focus just on the new pokemon

Hopefully this will give them a bit more time to focus on the games not being shit

Probably the same reasoning for no battle frontier, Game Freak wanted kids to actually be able to complete the dex without giving up and just going on their phones.

It would be rather amusing if the reason the stopped doing the National Dex expansions is because they’ve made too many foreign regions... so different country can’t be “National”. though why this stops them from an INTERnational Dex is beyond me.

Laziness is the only reason and it's not even a good one.
The games actually keep track of your National Dex progress anyway (you can see it in the GTS by searching by letter), they just don't show it to you in any practical format.
