not true things like Lanturn and Relicanth are cool, it's just the variety that sucks and you'll eventually just finding the same pokemon over and over

Maybe they'd have a point if we were talking about RSE, surfing can be a bit tedious with all the tentacruel, but at least exploring was fun in RSE.
Considering the fact that an evil team in the game is obsessed with water, I'd say the balance is perfect, not to mention all the water-mons there are in the region is great

IMO It was a massive negative in the original ruby and sapphire, where all the swimmers and fishermen lining those routes had the same Pokémon, making the routes feel very familiar.

The dive routes are interesting. The surf routes are the same boring nonsense through the entire game except the one near the end with currents. They take up way too much of the game.

so the basic experience of every single pokemon game (weather it's water, caves etc.? you're a lazy fatass cunt, if anything ORAS is the last game to have this problem since they lowered the encounter rates so much i had like 1 or 2 unwanted wild encounters in the entire playthrough, SM is worse in that regard also because the wild pokemon lvls are so high you either overlevel with the exp share or you're going to get annoyed real quick

No because they don't require me to do it for over 1/3 of the fucking game. In XY I actually had fun with wild encounters because every route had like 5+ unique Pokemon. In ORAS it's the same bullshit every route.

In RSE, yes. In ORAS, no.
The reason being yes in RSE because there is too much water. The encounter rate is borked so you basically need repels to not get interrupted every 5 tiles to see the same ol Pelipper and Tentacool, and that previous to Gen 4, all water moves were special. In ORAS, half the water routes are completely optional and only one area each is mandatory for Dive and Waterfall to progress. Not to mention they greatly decreased the encounter rate, made the routes shorter and also made it so that if you surf on a Sharpedo, you go twice as fast. Also, since you can fly to individual routes, it makes getting to the Regis much less tedious. Water is a non issue in ORAS.

It does not impede story progression beyond possibly swapping out a team member for a dive-user to get the seafloor cavern, but it is easy filler clear as day, and even ORAS didn't realize the potential of diving. You could wrap the Sinnoh Underground, superfluous mini-dungeons galore, and other things all under one mechanic.

Probably because you don't need to use them as often. Though you can make the argument that you don't need to use them as often in gen 3 as well. Waterfall's used like once, Dive can be used twice if you know what you're doing. Surf's used everywhere.

I'm aware it's based on a real area in Japan, but they could've chosen to 'shift' the part of the region they were adapting, chosen a different region, or even added more emphasis on areas like Shoal Cave, introduced bridges, or even artificial landmasses/etc.

The water routes have low variability in Pokemon selection and are visually uninteresting, creating a tedious and uninteresting experience.
