Lake guardians and the genies are lazy pallette swap tier designs. I'd also tentatively include the Lati twins in this;though they tried at least slightly harder to differentiate between them (and at least you only encounter one of them per game).
I don't care how good they are competitively, how much of a role they had in the story, or even if you like the base design for them. They are a lazy attempt to create a legendary trio using the design of a single Pokémon.
You could take literally my favourite Pokémon design, add two colour variants and declare it a trio, and I will STILL call you a lazy game designer.
It's not about the design or usefulness of any single member of the trio; it's the audacity of declaring them 3 separate Pokémon when they are form changes at the very most.
