kind of sucks in retrospect but who ever even played the slot machines? That shit was tedious and unfun. Voltorb Flip at least got the noggin joggin' and 100% of players just played the slots for 10 minutes before losing interest entirely and just buying the coins outright

It's got nothing to do with the EU or European Laws, It's all caused by PEGI's rating system. The game corner didn't exist in South Korean copies either because gambling is illegal there.

Removing the Game Corner in Kanto would be more difficult because it is a major plot point in R/B/Y/FR/LG. So either Game Freak make a new area near or in Celadon City (unlikely since they are lazy fucks) or they make the slot machines not usable.

My point is that breeding is fine as it is. It only gets cumbersome once you go out of your way to breed something specific. When it comes down to that, it's your OCD's fault, not the game mechanics' fault.

Breeding was introduced as a means to get the baby pokémon and fill your pokédex. Being able to breed-engineer perfect pokémon is a side effect.
It's like complaining that soft resetting your game a few hundred times to get a shiny starter is tiring and should be removed.
