Having played Kingdom Hearts games, some of the generic NPCs could easily fit in Detective Pikachu and vice versa.

Pixar's a bit of stretch but I'd chalk it up to how CGI animation only has so few appealing character designs that aren't exaggerated to shit or ugly as sin.

That's some bad pandering to the western style. Absolutely atrocious, looks like those Disney Pixar characters or just cheap 3D series. Not even Colosseum and Gale of Darkness dared so much, Pokemon Battle Revolution had a similar awful design for the characers.

It was closer to pokemon than anything from the colosseum games.
