Agatha has a scary and noir like theme, Agatha Christie and all the spooky romances and poisonings, almost witch and bitter lady themed. Karen keeps her slot and the theme becomes witchcraft and cursing, see her whole original team,spoops, spirits, demonic animals, magic plants and creatures, black crow, black cat mixed with a femme fatale theme.

The fact that she has a pure poison in Arbok instead of just spamming haunters and Gengars is proof of this.

Anyone who thinks she is a Ghost specialist also probably still calls Suicune, Raikou, and Entei “legendary dogs”

Agatha is as old as Oak since it is implied they were friends or met during their adventures.

Likely she just left by health issues or just didn't want to be elite 4 any longer, considering Karen looks a lot like Agatha maybe she gave the post to Karen who is a relative.

I don't think so. every special trainer, at least since gen 3 has one pokemon that is their signature pokemon. one you're not likely to see another trainer have (with few exceptions of course). Mismagius is pretty much Morty's signature poke, even though he doesn't have it in his initial battle

And although Marowak, froslass and chandelure are ghost types, they don't fit very well with the scary theme she has going for her.
I think Cofagrigus and Trevenant work better. Don't know what could be her last poke, though

There are no other people in HGSS that has Mismagius, so i'm pretty sure that's the best fit for being his signature poke

I hope for the next gym bosses are themed around strategies and not types. I hope one of the switches a lot and you have to learn to counter the switches, and I hope another is a staller/poisoner

Besides, i'd say Pidgeot is Falkner's signature, but he doesn't have that until his rematch

How do you even become an E4 member? Do you need to have 8 badges? Be really good in general? Koga went from being a gym leader to E4 so did they promote him? Why not Sabrina or Blaine?

I wouldn't say Cofagrigus and Treventant are scarier than Froslass and Chandelure. Cofagrigus specifically I feel is too esoteric for her theme; I tried to go with things that are based solely on ghosts, and I didn't think a sarcophagus fit that too well. Chandelure is at least a bit more obvious than that, but looking back I would definitely replace it with Spiritomb.

They and probably the people who administer the league likely just pick and vote among best trainers in the region. After Kanto they needed new people since Red fucked off and Lorelei and Agatha retired, so only Bruno and Lance were left. Lance takes over Red's champion spot. Koga gets invited since he has a daughter who can inherit his gym, he probably gets picked over Sabrina/Blaine since he's more of a strategic battler. Will and Karen get invited because they're strong trainers who've caught their eye. Will also mentions that he traveled the world prior to joining so they're experienced as well. Will, Koga, Bruno and Karen then battle each other a few times to determine their positioning.
