how's dragon a good offensive typing?

it's only SE agianst itself and resisted by steel and immune to fairy

if it wasn't the STAB of super strong mons, dragon would pretty much be obsolet as attacking option, I don't think there's a single competitive non dragon, that runs an offensive dragon move

That's because dragon is fucking shit as coverage. As STAB it's still decent, although the days of pressing the button are long gone

Poison is a better defensive typing than ghost. Poison types not getting recovery tends to be the only reason you don't see more of it in OU.

I was thinking a steel/water snorlax type would be cool. Primarina's typing is fantastic even though it and Fini are pretty weak mons for where they're at.

Giga Drain probably isn't reliable enough to help most of the tanks. A poison type recover, however, would suddenly shoot a whole bunch of Pokemon into viable territory. It's pretty much the opposite of grass, which is a shitty defensive typing that gets loads of recovery options most Pokemon are too frail to take advantage of.
