Should gym leaders/elite 4 members use mixed teams more instead of being full monotype?

I actually quite liked the people in gen 4 who did this. Kinda makes me wanna see a whole game like it just to see how it turns out. It'd give you more to consider other than "spam X and win". The fact that they're connected through a move they have that's the same type is cool and still consistent enough, anyway. Plus, type specialists are one of the few things that could change but never have. Let it happen!

gym leaders no, but if they ever add rematching gym leaders then they should have a more varied team on rematch. elite four absolutely, but having a focus (majority one type) is cool too.

it's always either late game Ice types/Ice type specialist or no Ice type specialist at all, which should really change

They should, but they should be more smart about it. Instead of it being 'mons that can use fire moves and are vaguely related to heat in some way' they could have given volkner a sun team, or a volcano themed team.

Gym leaders/e4 should occasionally take thematic specializations alongside type ones.
Take Gen 2's Koga. He wasn't really the poison-type guy, he was the status guy.
Maybe make a guy do a sand team instead of just a rock one. Throw a Cacturne or a Clefable, or a safety goggles Shedinja on it for the twist.

Alola’s E4 *almost* does it... almost.

But I’d prefer them having more coverage moves over random other types. (Like that Solar Beam and Thunder Punch... but more.)

It would be more challenging if the Elite Four each specialized in a stat like the partner trainers in Sinnoh. One has HP whores lile Blissey & Audino, another is a sweep attacker with Weavile & Aerodactyl, etc.

I could never understand why they didn't have Grass type instead, there were plenty of new Grass types to use, Shiftry, Ludicolo, Breloom, Roselia, Tropius etc, though it seems the E4 tend to use types that counter each other

Dark > Ghost
Ice > Dragon

And Gen 5 E4 for example.

Dark > Ghost > Psychic > Fighting > Dark

What it pissed me off in Pearl/Diamond is that Flint boasted to be a Fire specialist when in reality he had only 2 Firemons, while Karen or Koga never claimed to be Dark/Poison/Bug specialists. It just amde more sense to me not to boast anything. Or maybe that their teams were more following a specific theme rather than Pokemons with a Fire move.
