Oh shut up. I'll be the first to hate on Gen 7 but this is actually one of the things it did right. Ultra Warp Ride is a fun and engaging minigame unlike, say, the Festival Plaza minigames where you just walk in circles and answer the same questions over and over. And desirable Pokémon should be time-consuming to acquire.

Sure, but time-consuming in the way of older games where you had to go through a dungeon or some sort of sidequest.
Not flying through a tiny ass hallway and hoping you don't get sucked into a portal that you don't wanna go in, hoping you get enough speed-boosts to go further and get a better chance of getting anything good, hoping you don't just fly straight through a portal you actually wanna go through, and hoping that when you finally get a good portal it's the mon that you want.

This aint Gen 2 when there were only 5 legendaries. We got shit to do and natures bring enough RNG as it is.
The shit just isn't fun after the 5th time of not getting what you're looking for.

Honestly? I find the minigame fun. There's this excitement of flying into a hole, not knowing what you'll get, maybe a legendary, maybe a shiny. It'd definitely improve if they had a bigger pool of Pokemon you could catch.

You know what's NOT fun? Soft resetting for legendaries/UBs with good natures and IVs. Or even worse, soft resetting for shinies. Because that's definitely fun, spending hours watching the same encounter over and over again, hoping one of them will have what you need.

I don't think I understand your complaint since there are like five pokemon in each color hole and I don't think the pokemon itself is strongly affected by distance traveled. If you only target a certain hole your odds of finding the one you want shouldn't be much worse than the typical methods of finding pokemon in the wild. And if you save beforehand every time and encounter the pokemon you want, you can soft reset for the right nature. What makes this pool of randomness any more inconvenient than the normal patch of grass?
