Just started Pokemon sun. Bought it when it came out but my best friend didn't have her game until a few days ago so I held off. Now we are starting together. Give me the advice you wish you had at the start of the game my dudes.

Don't bother buying it because they're going to release an "updated" version in a year. It's too late for that though it seems.

Don't use Crabrawler or Grubbin because they evolve super late. Most new pokémon are slow as shit so don't go the "only new stuff" route.

Both Vikavolt and Crabrawler won't evolve until very late in the game. So late it's hardly worth investing in either.

Ribombee (while shitty competitively) is fabulous in-game with the amount of dark, grass, fighting and psychic you find on routes. Rapidly became my signature mon for the run and I really didn't expect that beforehand.

I think he's saying to cover it because of the rotomdex, which I personally didn't find annoying but also didn't care for.
I'm barely slogging through the game while I switch between playing it and Platinum, but I have to agree that the newer Pokémon are kind of shit. Most of my team consists of Kanto Pokemon. The Alola forms are actually very useful at points, so look into them to see what you might like.

The game constantly tries to remind you of where it wants you to go. Covering up the bottom screen makes it easier to ignore. If you want Pokemon recommendations, both Alolan Muk and Magnezone were great. I will tell you that in my 20 years with this series, S/M are the only Pokemon games that I dropped halfway through and forced myself to finish months later. I had an extremely bad time with it, so I have your journey goes a lot better.

1. You fucked up as Moon legend makes more sense storywise
2. Use Pokepelago as fast as you get it. It's worth it. Upgrade the leveling place first
3. Drampa is a great mon - Get it from trade.
4. Explore EVERY AREA and TALK TO EVERYONE. There are many cool sidequests

One big point was getting Sun instead of Ultra Sun, but I like this story more than USun's. Gameplay got better in the second release, Primarina tanks and hits hard
