Like 5 years ago. People have started appreciating Gen 5, especially after Gen 6 and 7. The concept of Black sheep doesn't exist in Pokemon. It's just an endless Zelda cycle where the most recent or last recent are disliked.

platinum's dawn+lucas are my faves for some reason--not just Gen4 being my fave, but love their designs too. honorable mentions go to kris, and then may+brendan; especially their emerald version orange+green clothes.

If it were up to me, I'd keep them in their Platinum outfits. Their artwork is largely up to date with what's currently produced, and they are climate appropriate. As if they would be people I'd find in Hokkaido, whereas Brendan and May never really look like they came from Kyushu in the originals.

My favorite pair overall is all the gen 5 protags. I think they're all really cool and cute looking. Least favorites are Sun and Lucas, but their third version redesigns fixed them for me

Literally fake news. Also Chicken Chan is arguably the worst female protagonist because of that awful Dora the Explorer haircut. She makes a huge improvement with her USUM design though, whereas Sun took a massive step back.

I didn't think he was technically in the running and thus forget him. For shame.

For what it's worth, his official proportions are whack. Eyes too big for his face, his overcoat is larger than his body and his limbs may or may not be celery. His flashy entrance also happens to be impossible to interpret since he's silently railroaded through the rest of the game.
