That's because you domt have to wander through the whole cave looking for a Gible, which is honestly the only reason to be in the cave. Maybe if there was anything interesting at the back of the cave where you can find her, that'd be a different story

They should have a "friends" system like that for a whole game. It could be like GSC's phone except with actual characters and actual impact on gameplay.

Meet certain characters and they'll offer various interactions like exploring the area together, battling, or just talking. Do that enough, perhaps having to find them in different routes over a number of days, and raise their friendship and you can invite them to other areas yourself and get different bonuses for different types of interaction, such as encountering different Pokemon depending on the friend you have along, them trading you Pokemon with moves that would be otherwise unobtainable, or getting special items for beating them in a battle, or just find out more about their character. You could even have a plot segment where whichever friend NPC you like the best comes along with you.
