it wouldn't increase variety. in fact, it would probably decrease variety. there would be fewer breakers that can get past stuff like clefable, chansey, toxapex, gliscor, and skarmory, and there would be fewer defensive checks to stuff like tyranitar, mega-pinsir, ash-greninja, and hawlucha. there's going to be centralization in any metagame, getting rid of lando and zapdos won't change that

what do you mean free pass? Im just saying that if you ban legendaries as a category you end up with ridiculous bans like Articuno (where as a Pokemon like Speed Boost Blaizken is not a legendary and would not be banned) as opposed to just banning based on their usage/individual basis. The only thing annoying about Legendaries as a category is that you can't breed them but that's true of many other Pokemon too and there are ways around that now.

You don't get it. People don't want to ban them because they're legendaries, but because being legendaries allows them to have incredibly bloated stats, movepools and excellent abilities, centralizing the whole meta around them.

Using the term "legendary" is just an easier way to refer to them. I posted above that I'd like to see megas gone too, though.

Yes, there would be collateral damage, but they're irrelevant, just like Phione and Celebi in VGC. Even if they were to be allowed, nobody would use them, so who cares?

There's barely anything other than legendaries and megas, and the ones who do just happens to still be useful against such legends/megas while their viability keeps getting lower and lower. And no, the likes of Tangrowth, Toxapex and Chasey aren't bloated with 580+ BST and a thousand viable moves.

Your argument just strenghens our point on how legendaries took over OU.

Gen5, no Hidden Abilities released yet, some gen6+ changes like new Defog and Pelipper/Torkoal having Drizzle+Drought, Gen7 learnpools (IE. Flygon learns Dragon Dance), Gen5 movepools (Flygon cannot learn Boomburst), certain items aren't working right now, no team preview, no fairy type but Outrage was kept at 90 BP and has successfully kept physical dragons manageable, no Pokemon not found in Emerald/Fire Red/BW1, no Rotom.
Current tiers weren't usage based but prediction based since it was going to take time until everything was implemented and didn't want ridiculous things to end up in a lower tier but soon it'll be usage based.
Does that somewhat fit your bill OP? Other than that I can't find anything that bans legendaries.
