Gold doesn't get 3 starters, only Typhlosion is canon. Following Red's theme of special encounters and given pokemon, Gold most likely has Typhlosion, Sudowoodo, Red Gyarados, Umbreon, Togetic, and Hitmontop.

I'd rather just the opposite, each protagonist has a starter more strongly associated with them than the others, and if not each gen arguably has a starter more popular than the other two. Just pick one and take the rest of the party from interactable, gift, demo and special download pokemon.
