Looking at “trends” of Pokemon games implies the same thing will happen again because that’s how it was before.
But that’s just wrong and has been proven wrong over and over (eg every game has 8 gyms, Eeveelutions are always introduced in pairs). The factors that inform decisions change constantly, and we don’t know all those factors. The Gen 8 release date is not informed by previous release dates, it’s informed by whether GF can put out an acceptable game by that date.
