3D would be fine if the gen 6/7 color palettes weren't so over-saturated and if the 3DS screen wasn't a 240p blurry piece of crap. Sprites were charming for their time but sadly they are never coming back. You need to let go anon.

I unironically preferred the chunky looking 3D style of the Stadium games and Colosseum/GoD. It had a goofy charm to it that fit well with the series.

Kinda subjective I guess. I still don't see much of a difference, maybe beak size/color and eye color? Tail size definitely but I still feel it's a bit nitpicky to point out. Though, it also depends on what official artwork the model is based on. The game looks like it's trying to have its own art style though so I think it's fine. It looks good to me, rather simplified a bit.

Dream World art is so bad just by virtue of how underwhelming it is. I get that you wanted to do a different artstyle for this new crossplatform game mode, but let the artists have some fun with it at least. Street Fighter V's been great with this, where they have a dedicated artist doing all the art for this official character guide thing.

Ohmura retired. The alolan forms, Zygarde, Magearna, and all the new USUM Pokemon were drawn by Sugimori. Everything else was drawn by an unknown new artist.

The line work is identical to Sugimori's style. Ohmura and the other artist use smooth outlines. Sugimori's are messier.

TCG confirms sugimori did the SM human characters and the SM human characters have an identical style to the alolan forms/magearna/zygarde/USUM UBs while literally every other new Pokemon have another artist's style. I don't know what else to tell you anon.

They had to model hundreds of the things, so they had to cut corners. The gen 7 Pokemon tend to have noticeably more detailed attack animations (other than the generic attacks where the Pokemon just hops a bit).

The sprites were drawn dynamic, conveying the attitude and personality of the pokemon. In Amie, the pokemon just awkwardly stands around, waiting for you to stroke his thorax.

Look at Pokemon like Nidoking, Rhydon, and Tyranitar and then come back. Sure, the models are technically superior, but they're so soft and rounded that many of the older badass, rough, or sharply designed Pokemon look like fucking dolls now.

They clearly wanted the Pokemon to be fully animated judging by Gen V so models were the obvious answer. Gen V's animated sprites looked like complete shit and there was no way they were gonna put the amount of work in necessary to make them look decent. Models are just easier to work with.

The problem with the colors is troublesome because the sprites were oversaturated to begin with. The "washed out" colors are way closer to the official art.
