I'm willing to bet that it'll be Gen 8's mechanic but done in the same way as Applimonsters, where two Pokemon hold an ore of some kind and one takes in some of the stats and traits of the other, of course like Megas it would be limited to a certain few.

If it does happen, hopefully it's determined by the primary types of the pokemon being fused.

Fusion won’t happen for two reasons

1) that’s a FUCKTON of work. Lots of models, stats and mechanics. 807 factorial (not even counting forms). The game can’t even store that much info.
2) then what would be special about Kyurem and Necrozma? Their mechanic is fusion.

It’s not 807 factorial, it’s 807*806. That’s still over 650k though which is infeasible. Even final forms only is over 100k.

In theory it could be possible to auto-generate fusions, or somehow add small features of one Pokemon to another. But that’s *incredibly* difficult, no way GF could do it.

Let's be realistic here. If they become a thing, they will be a one-generation gimmick mechanic, and will only affect specific pokemon.
We already have a bunch of fusion pokemon, they are just unable to fuse mid-battle.

Generation 11 will probably have a pool of about 20 pokemon that are each able to fuse with 3 other selected pokemon, for a total of under 100 forms. Only 40 of those forms will be visually distinct (the other will just be "big guy with a pokemon glued to his back/chest/shoulder") and only 20 will be at all useful in battle

Obviously not every Pokemon is gonna be able to fuse, dipshit. It'll be the same as Mega Evolution and unique Z-Moves, it'll just be reserved to certain Pokemon.

As for Kyurem and Necrozma, who cares? Making older Pokemon "less special" isn't a reason to avoid implementing a new feature.

Everytime a fire type and a water type fuse we get a steamon, everytime an electric type and a poison tupe fuse we get a nukemon, everytime a dark type and a fairy type fuse we get an impmon etc
You could make an entire dex out of all the possible combinations and people could stop whining about certain type combinations like fire/electric not being a thing
