For a start, the game started development in 2015, when Gamefreak received the Switch Dev kit, whether it be programming or concepts, we know gen 8 started around then.
They don't work on one game at a time you retard, it's not like they go "Ok USUM is out, now we can begin work on the Switch Game!" Gen 8 would've started before Gen 7 was even released.
