I think GF are going to knock this outta the park, they know how to use a computer and coding for Switch is not as difficult as coding for 3/DS was - ever. I can see them re-using SM's engine, but modifying it to run better on Switch and coupled with the aesthetic next time will be enough of a difference that we won't really notice.

Or not so much lazy, but I feel that SM was deved by the same team that made USM, largely (you telling me, had anyone more senior been director, it still would have taken till near end of development to think of something to replace Gyms with?). I feel the senior members of GF set Gen VII in motion, then removed themselves from day-to-day development and began working on Gen VIII, taking on more team members as it became feasible. By this stage, I expect the whole studio to be working on this, to have it ready for go time.
