Besides, that's a stupid argument. You're implying XY and SM's story focus made them better than the earlier Generation's barebones stories. It didn't. The new games have stories that are both convoluted AND too simplistic, often with unrelatable and underdevelopped characters. The old barebones stories were at least fun to go through, these are a pain since they telegraph every twist and STILL force you to sit through hours of repetitive, boring cutscenes.
The only thing this new story focus has shown us is that Gamefreak doesn't have decent writters. The effort they put into writing and animating hours of cutscenes would be better spent on world-design and gameplay.
