And Ho-Oh was in the first ever Pokemon episode which was in 1997. Did we get Gen 2 that year? No, we didn't get it for another two years.

A Gen 8 Pokemon being in the anime/movies doesn't equate to the games coming out that year (there aren't even any Gen 8 Pokemon confirmed for the 2018 movie yet anyway)

Because mega Diancie was the "new" pokémon, is not the same, Zoroark was revealed like in june too. The new pokémon (and most of the time the center of the plot) is always revealed later

Although I think gen 8 will be 2018, I don't think a gen 8 pokemon will star the movie. One might make a cameo thouh. Lugia and Zeraora are most likely the stars. Just like how in 2013 Genesect and Mewtwo stared the movie
