Consider Hawlucha. The general populace took it to be an eh sweeper that'd just be BL based on its coverage. One guy tops with it using a Seed set, a Youtuber copies him, the community copies the Youtuber, and the usage rises for it and gives it a solid place in OU.
Short answer: It's far better than the 'bad' you'd think since you have much more options than you think if you just experiment a little or get a feel for the meta.
