I'm the anon who rightfully predicted that gen 7 would come out in 2016 by looking at VGC rules' history. Sadly I'm having trouble to find the thread.

Long story short, since gen 2, they've always allowed box legendaries to compete in official tourneys when a new gen was about to be released. This year, box legendaries are not allowed, ergo, gen 8 probably isn't coming out this year.

Yes, it has been broken once. XY were the only games that didn't conform to this pattern. But, coincidentally, it was the time that the series went truly internacional, with XY being released at the same date for the whole world.

I don't know what this means. But history tells us that gen 8 will likely be released in 2019.
