Gen 7 is a huge piece of shit. It's biggest accomplish is introducing alolan forms, which suck dick, and the games have no staying power because they are story driven. Meta wise, everything is even more centralizing than gen 6, so it's only gotten worse, because nothing feels like it's changed.

That's why everyone wants gen 8 to come out as quickly as possible.

It was on the downhill swing before gen 7. If you look across the board, even other sites where hardcore weirdos lurk like tumblr don't have the same enthusiasm for the series as before. XY was rushed. ORAS was good but a remake so it had a more limited audience. GO ruined all of its vast potential by embarrassing incompetence. SM was serviceable and well received outside of /vp/ but doesn't have long term staying power. USM is better but as a third version it has a limited audience.

4chan itself has had a culture shift that would take too long to describe in detail. The geist of it is the original content is discouraged. Moderation is lackluster as there's too much focus too much on technical rule breaking rather than shit that actually makes the board intolerable like starter wars and ironic shitposting.

Gen 5 is funny because it was very popular among hardcore fans, but bad at keeping the casual audience or bringing in new kids. More or less the general consensus with pic related.

I liked unova. Better looking pokemon than gen 4 and it was fun to play through. Don’t know what the issue is besides the region being a circle. It seems very minor compared to other gen issues like shit aesthetics, too short, etc.

It was a pretty boring facility, especially since gen 5 already had the subway
Gen 4 had an actual frontier and a dedicated battling game, it's really not comparable

It's because there's nothing to do past the main game. People generally like the Mantine surf and Ultra warp ride, but they are solo activities. The Battle Tree is the same as before. Festival Plaza is still garbage. The Battle Factory came back, but so badly implemented that you rarely see threads on it. The only thing that /vp/ has really picked up on is the Photo Club and that's because people can make lewd pictures and share them.

So that /vp/ doesn't descend into complete retardation, it needs activities where anons can work or compete with one another, whether it be Join Avenue, Entralink, Friend Safari, Secret Bases, or anything like that.

This is why people are so anxious over news of the Switch games. They want something to do, and US/UM isn't giving it to them.

Nah, it has been like this since sometime after SM. The sensible ones finished it and moved on, while the hyper autists spent the rest of their days screeching at how little the games aided in fixing their lives. The franchise has honestly been pretty dead ever since considering how little USUM brought to the table. It probably wasn't enough to bring everyone back.
