Takeshi Shudo shifted between brilliant and bonkers on dime and was kind of in the habit of pitching ideas the Pokemon TV series was either too underdeveloped or not crazy ENOUGH to play out. The Mewtwo film was probably his golden ratio there.

I've NEVER seen a full-sized version of the English MSB poster, that's really cool.

A lot of Shudo's ideas were probably bad for the series in hindsight.

GameFreak can be retarded with the series, but at least they handled worldbuilding much better in the end. Post-Shudo OLM's hit or miss in carrying that over

I really liked how they sorta hinted to one of Shudo's ideas/blogs in M20 with that Marshadow "nightmare" sequence where Ash woke up in a world with no Pokémon.

One of the best scenes in that movie, and one of the best scenes in all Pokémon movies, period.

The multiverse itself makes sense since even as far as Red/Green you are trading with alternate versions of yourself who inhabit slightly different worlds.
Just the execution was sub-par when you encounter other worlds and they are either 99% the same or a small corridor.

Yes, that theme was used as an anime ending theme, but it was still a trailer for the movie. What they're basically saying at the end of the trailer that the movie is coming this summer and will have Pikachu's Vacation in it and that it won't cause seizures.

Shudo said something about the early trailers being calculated from the early storyboards. Most likely they basically just used outdated footage they had already animated from the original script as I'm not sure it was still going to be the finale by the time they aired the trailer.

No, it was meant to take place around episode 65 of an 85 episode series. That's why there's so much setup for it around the 8th gym, it was meant to premiere when those episodes were airing on TV. The "series finale" thing is a meme.

Honestly, I don't mind surprisingly dark or even deconstructionist elements in Pokemon world building - it's interesting as hell. But Pokemon's supposed to still end up, ultimately, exactly as the happy and power of friendship world it's portrayed as with the good and positive always triumphing.

That happened before even the Marshadow Dark Void thing, and was completely overshadowed by what came after.
That movie didn't lack for impressive ideas, they were just glued together poorly.
Also, the dub killed 90% of the emotional tension with bad acting, script and music. The OST was ripped straight from Gen 1, so changing the music is completely nonsensical.

The anime under Shudo was a more self-cointained canon of Pokemon like most media is. How is that edgy? Rayquaza got mad at Zinnia's recklessness and punished her like it has happened to tons of humans and pokemon in the anime and games

There are a ton of mentions of people and pokemon getting killed/injured/cursed, and cities/buildings destroyed as punishment for misbehaving in front of pokemon deities in the anime and games

PokeSpe follows closely the mood of what the games try to set up for with tons of fluffy and cute moments and the occassional cruelty and violence, specially the early games when Game Freak didn't shy away from showing injuries and weapons or violent battles in the games and promotional material, before having to tone it down for a wider appeal and either stopping being referenced or becoming text-only. PokeSpe gets away with still showing it because it's printed media.

All I want to know is if Pikachu was going to be in good terms with Ash when starting his revolution.
The anime made a point that Ash for all his faults actually cared about his pokemon in contrast to Gary who only wanted to win with the strong ones. If Ash was originally going to lose against Gary in the league, maybe the catalyst for the revolution was seeing someone like Gary get all the glory while someone like Ash was seen as the inferior trainer despite how they each treated their pokemon? Just an idea.
