>>34792392I'd recommend playing one game from each gen, but don't listen to him, if you are to play only one 3ds pokemon game, make it USUM. XY are painfully sterile, overworld/character graphics are shit, probably worst music in the series, and it really suffers from being the first 3d game.
Worst you can say about USUM is it barely improves on SM (which is a problem that isn't relevant to you) and that it is awful with pace breaking cutscenes. But cutscenes aren't that big of a deal on your first playthrough, and XY had a shit ton as well.
