What's there to defend? Gamefreak was and always will be run by a gaggle of retards. They don't put any thought into Pokemon stats or types, which is why we had the train-wreck that was Sneasel and Ghost type attacks being physical

To this day I believe that making Ghost physical was some sort of programming error that they decided to keep around for the next 2 generations for consistency. There's no way someone at Gamefreak actually thought that making the only Ghost type (whose highest stat was Special Attack) in the game have TWO physical STABs was intended.

It's not an error. It's because the only Ghost move that didn't have fixed damage in gen 1 was Lick, a physical move.

lick and night shade, while not having a power night shade is still registered as a non contact special move in the current generation. And i guarentee that night shade was used more than lick. Not to mention that when shadow ball was introduced it lowered sp def in gens 2 and 3 despite being physical. Im almost positive that ghost was meant to be special, but someone didnt get the memo

every dark type move before gen 4 was physical in nature. Dark Pulse was the first, conceptual special dark type move.

Ghost was physical because of Lick, Dark was physical because of Bite, which is Normal in RGBY.

When the categories of moves became move-dependent in DP instead of type-dependent, they solved these issues.

"Faint Attack" is a localization error that wasn't fixed until X and Y.

The English TCG has always called it Feint Attack and its Japanese name helps understand why that is.

Yes, it sucks that there are two English-named moves called Feint but what can we do?

I'm trying to remember, but I'm pretty sure that of the gen 2 dark types, only Umbreon and Tyranitar have good defense stats.

Murkrow, Houndoom and Sneasel have ass defense stats.

Houndoom and Tyranitar were also the hardest-hitting Dark-types in Gen II, getting STAB off of 110 and 95 base SpA, respectively. (They, along with Houndour, were also the only Dark-types that could learn Crunch in Gen II)
