Why haven't they ever done a direct on the weekend? Wouldn't it be better since kids would be home to watch it?

Dude, Sun & Moon wasn't announced until Feb 26th, 2016. Give it some time dude! We will know by the end of April if Gen VIII is 2018 or not.

its an important date for pokemon and since the games have to be released soon people r just looking at every significant pokemon date feb-march to try to figure out exactly when the inevitable direct will drop

I'm of the opinion the online will be nothing more than paying for access to the old Nintendo Library and the MP functionalities for they, rather than paying for online gaming in current games (they use P2P for all their 1st party MP titles, unless they're seriously setting up servers for MP, the fee won't be to play games with), so not using it as evidence for Pokémon Switch.
