How does Nintendo expect little kids to pay 20$ a year just to play Pokemon Online? Paying for Splatoon, Arms and Mario Kart is one thing but for Pokemon?

My allowance was $5 a week back in 1988. I think kids these days can ask mom and dad for $20 a year. Especially when it's only going to last 5-7 years, like most console online platforms.

They might try to work out a deal where pokemon stays free. The fact of the matter is pokemon's primary demographic is young children. They play online now and use the GTS because it's free, but no parent is going to pay so their kid can go online.

Mobile app is only needed for voice chat so not Pokemon. Assuming the service will work similarly to PS+ you should be able to use GTS or something like Festival Plaza for free. PS+ only makes you pay for direct connection to other players.
