Doubles/triples generally isn't hard on Pokemon that are already good in Singles, while tons of Pokemon with moves and stat layouts that are tailored more towards doubles get to join them. Shuckle can't be dealt with anymore simply by switching out, and its Guard Split and Power Split become very useful, especially with how much less switching there is. Trick Room and Weather no longer seem like they're on such a short time limit, so things like Rhyperior and Omastar become much less of a hassle to bring out. Comfey can heal status before the foe even gets to exploit it much. Lava Plume is now highly valuable in many Sun teams where you want to activate your own Flash Fire. Stuff like that.
Oh and pretty much any Uber that isn't a box legend is no longer OP, further expanding options. Though Magearna actually elevates because of how busted Soul Heart gets.
But yes. Doubles has a much larger variety of viable mons, people just like to stick with some safer options because they can't come up with their own sets. That doesn't mean something like Heatmor is necessarily optimal, but it's still easy to keep out of dead-weight territory. You're only really hosed if your bro is Ledian or Delibird or something along those lines.
