Right now, the main anime girl (Lillie)'s signature Pokemon is Alolan Vulpix, so if a Mystery Dungeon game was released now, it would definitely be a starter/partner choice.

There's plenty of time, they just need to let the license pass around beyond just the main games more. We haven't had a lot of creativity in new spinoff games recently, and the series could use it. I know I'd be down for more, even over the main games at this point.
