I like to look on smogon for builds and advice on team comp and whatnot, but ultimately, i play whatever pokemon i like, and do so without involving myself in their online community.
Frankly, i think their rules are silly, but i also think that the Smash Brothers fighting game scene is silly, and would never play by their ridiculous rules either. The fact that you still have people playing a Game Cube title competitively - despite there being two newer editions of the same game...
At least the competitive starcraft sene plays sc2, and that gets supported by it's creators still.
