The two sides are merging in its second form, and the third form changes very, very little. Maybe add just a few bits of fire to the ice side and bits of ice to the fire side? This way you could keep each side individually identifiable while showing the thoroughness of their unison.
I'm able to appreciate the nuance of its base form having Protean, with the two sides struggling to over-power each other, making it take on the type of one half at a time in battle.
