Theory: the reason these games are crammed full of one-pokemon trainers is to maximise the uptime of Z-moves; a design decision to push us to like that mechanic.

Multi-pokemon trainers are tedious, but that's because they're always shitmons.

The veterans/ace trainers do it right, since every one of their pokemon is EV trained and varied.
