It isn't that they can't, it's that they don't. Japanese is a high context language, to the point where marking plurality is unnecessary. English is a low context language, so marking plurals is usually necessary outside of mass nouns.

This is just a huge bait thread for Gen 5 apologists to pretend their beta dragon who still doesn't exist is anywhere near what Arceus was conceived to be. Yes, Arceus created the universe with its thousand arms; yes, making a god Pokémon is a real tough act to follow; yes, truth and ideals and a fucking husk can not measure up in any way to the lore of Gen 4. Just deal with the fact that Gen 5 lore was kind of shit compared to Gen 4 but ffs don't delude yourselves.
