I guess GF is contrary, too. They only ban Mythicals (most likely due to the mindset that they're missable and thus put players that missed them at a disadvantage), box legends (minus Suicune), direct relatives of box legends (Zygarde, Cosmog, Cosoem), and Mewtwo.

Which is a pedantic distinction that does not matter in practice. It will still take more attacks to bring down Chansey than to bring down Regice. In fact it's actually better to lose more numerical HP(especially if you lose less percentage) because you are going to inflict more recoil damage, or even do more damage with Counter.

It doesn't really change much. Ambipom was never completely useless, just outclassed by better mons. All it really proves is that unviable mons can still reach the top of the ladder if you properly build a team around them.

People have reached top of the ladder with shitmons all the time. I myself got pretty high with Vaporeon in gen6 UU and I still got banned from the UU chatroom for suggesting that it deserved higher than D rank.
The Ambipoms he used never really did anything better than Mienshao or Infernape could have done other than a strong Fake Out.

Normally tier changes only happen every 3 months. There are monthly quick changes if a pokemon has really high or low usage. They brought it in to accelerate Pokemon dropping down tiers like Dugtrio without Arena Trap.
