To my understanding the orange cat thing is their mascot, except they take the whole pika clone thing to a whole new level. Just google "Yo-kai watch cat" or something and you'll see all the clones they have of their mascot. It's pretty insane. That or these are forms and it's still fucking crazy.

What are you exactly calling failing in this context? Failing in overtaking Pokémon or failing to be successful in general?

Obviously nobody has managed to be the new Pokémon, and I doubt someone will unless it's truly revolutionary. Pokémon was the beginning kick of the monster catching genre (please notice I'm saying the kick and not the actual first try) and it's hard to top being the one that started all unless you bring something so unbelievable that everyone will want to copy. (Kinda like what Evangelion did to mecha, regardless of your opinion of it.)

Failing in general though? Awful example. YW did amazing in Japan - one of the movies did better than SW ep VII and well enough in the west.

My favorite part of Pokémon is looking for the monsters and filling the dex. YW makes you interact in a great way with the world for a monster catcher: looking under cars, checking in the bushes, etc. It was nice. A pity their catching sucks, the battle is just ok, and they abuse recolors like woah.

Well, it's not uncommon in rpgs to find recolors of early monsters in later games to show the stronger version. So I guess they took it from there.

But in other RPGs works as grinding leftovers. In YW it isn't good in my opinion. In a game about monster collecting, recolors are shit.

Pokemon has been in decline in terms of quality and gameplay, every pokemon fans knows about it. We still buy the game cos autism but the franchise doesn't give a shit, at least Yo-Kai will be a little innovative unlike pokemon.

They were so greedy and desperate they made Yokai Watch 3 all based around American culture with absolutely atrocious designs, made a pokemon style dual release and then just 5 months later released the third version, and it bombed so hard the franchise is getting a movie reboot

What you're trying to pull is very disingenuous; combining the first YW2 game (released July 2014) with the third version (December 2014) and saying it sold better. Yw2 was more fun than gen 6 and 7, it also lets you skip cutscenes, making replays of the game actually enjoyable.

Not him but while it's true that SMT predates JJBA (and specially SC), Persona in itself does not and the Persona summoning is pretty similar to the JJBA Stand system, up to using Tarot as motif. Given, even if Persona is influenced by JJBA I'd argue they actually improved on the formula by adding some interesting layers with the Jungian psychology and the Fool's Journey. JoJo, on the other hand, begins using tarot because fuck-you-its-cool and then drops it to use Egyptian Gods and then drops it to use musical references.

Nothing lasts forever, no matter how successful it will eventually lessen in impact over time, Pokemon is known to have huge hyped launches and dying down later on, Gens had that, movies had that, GO has that, realistically I'd say Pokemon has 20 to 30 more years, by then most people here would've moved on anyway.

As for successful clone, It doesn't actually matter, the brand is more important than it's contents, it's why Something as Pokemon GO during launch could be so successful despite being a glitchy, unbalanced clone of Ingress, their other game.

Right but the amount of interest has been waning, sales in not only games but movies have been getting lower and lower, Of course they're still very high but you can't ignore that the excitement around the series isn't what it's used to be, the 20th Anniversary was probably the closest we got to recapturing Pokemania and it died out within weeks, with GO losing most of it's fanbase within a month and Sun & Moon, while selling impressive numbers, barely lived up to the other Pokemon 3DS games without said hype.

I believe Pokemon Switch will bring the spark, just "Pokemon Switch" is enough to guarantee massive numbers, but what then? People have been more wary of third versions and there are less Pokemon made and a shifted focus on gimmicks, something that Digimon & YuGiOh tried to focus on when their interest was lessening.
