I never understand how someone can create a thread saying "The anime is finishing up soon!" when it clearly isn't and a whole thread full of people will just accept that without investigating it themselves. They know the idea of just believing someone from 4chan is stupid on paper, so why do they do it in practice?
The hardest facts we have are directly from GameFreak. The GameInformer interview in August 2017 (This is when the interview was recorded, too) showed Masuda and Ohmori clearly saying they were unsure about how to develop the game for the Switch because as a platform they still weren't sure how kids were using it. They also claimed they were expecting Christmas 2017 to give them the information they need. If the core elements of the game have not even been decided by August 2017, there's no way it'll be finished by 2018.
People also disregard so many other parts of the franchise because they see the games as the only important part, they don't realize that everything in the franchise is timed along with the generations and can't break patterns so easily. This goes beyond in-game changes, the franchise moves as a unit central to the generations - this is how Creatures Inc handles the TCG, Anime, Movies, Promotional Events, Contests, Merchandise, Toys and more to make the most amount of money from it. It's not as straightforward as most game franchises where a game is released and the rest is an afterthought. The fact is that the rest of the franchise hasn't caught up to the next gen yet and won't be there by the end of 2018. The second movie is coming out in July 2018, we ordinarily have 3-4 movies per gen, the TCG is way behind too.
The only way a Pokemon Switch game will come out in 2018 is if it's an expansion, a sequel or a remake as opposed to new generation games. I fully expect new gen games to be announced before the end of the 2018 fiscal year though, this will be a driver for the Switch's projected 20m console sales figures.
