SM had a lot of things that seems to be more problem of the direction basically going everywhere, as the game were very experimental. Best example was the fact that the trials were a last minute idea (hence why most of them are super short or plain bad, and what were captains supposed to do before?) and the unused caves that looked like rooms that would have had items.
I cannot really see anything that looks like it was trimmed or half-developed and abandoned except the surrounding areas of the lakes. Those looked like stages for something bigger and have a lot of details the player is locked out from, like the tornadoes. Unlike background props like the golf stage this area is fully modelled with proper textures and seems to have proper collision too.
