>so how many of you are excited about pokemon?
I wish I was. The last time I was excited was leading up to the gen 6 launch. Gen 6 turned out to be a major letdown though. And seven has only made it worse.
I miss 2d and have from the get go, I miss the subtlety and background details Pokemon used to have, I miss HMs so that what's blatant railroading now felt more like exploring and natural progression, I miss the elaborate region Sinnoh gave us, and the decently compelling story Black and White gave us, the post game Platinum and Black and White 2 had. I miss the meta gen 5 had, and even gen 6 to a small extent. I miss Join Avenue and the PSS, and hate that all the best features of each generation - not just the most unique - are cut out of future ones.
I feel like the music, regions, and NPCs have gotten less memorable, the gyms aren't as interesting anymore, the plot is obnoxious and intrusive now, and the handholding and railroading are completely unbearable.
I still love the Pokemon themselves and enjoyed the customization, but other than that most of what I find drawing me to these games is gone. Since the switch is requiring you to pay for use of internet that's just an added insult in my opinion. Most other games I wouldn't see that as a big deal, but at its heart Pokemon is about collecting, battling, and most of all trading monsters. It's a very social game and has been since its inception. I don't think there should be an additional bar to entry to be able to enjoy that. Pokemon really shouldn't be on a console that requires you to pay for the internet, because even though most will it changes the core experience from trading with everyone to trading with most people.
I haven't found a game that fills the same desires that Pokemon used to fill for me, if the games start doing some things that interest me again, I'll happily come back. But at this point there's nothing to draw me to Pokemon anymore or keep me to it but the Pokemon themselves.
