>>34860056I for one am glad that we got the new Fairy-type. It gave Poison and Steel the offensive niches they need to not be outclassed by other types. It nerfed Dragon and Fighting, two of the most powerful offensive types in Gen V. And it brought new competitive viability and life into many older Pokemon, which is always a good thing in my opinion. (For example, Granbull was offensively outclassed by Ursaring, whose base stats were equal to or higher in every area than Granbull. Granbull only had Intimidate to edge out Ursaring, but the Fairy-type allows Granbull to have its own niche outside Intimidate.)
>>34862041>Dark and Fighting didn't need more types resisting them, especially Dark.Fighting was a very overpowered offensive type in Gen V, partly because Game Freak introduced a shitton of them for power creep. For many dual Fighting-types, it didn't matter that 4 types already resisted Fighting since they had STAB or coverage moves that could beat them. (Such as Terrakion having Rock-type STAB for Flying- and Bug-types.)
Dark only had 3 types that resisted it, and Game Freak decided to nerf Steel's defensive viability, so they simply replaced Steel with Fairy. Dark didn't actually suffer that much offensively with the replacement.
