Pokémon eat each other. For a very long time, they avoided any and all references to humans eating pokémon, but as of Gen VI they decided they don't care anymore.

The Pokemon in PMD are far more civilized than Pokemon in the main series, so they've probably reached the point where they've decided eating each other is barbaric and socially unacceptable.

If only I didn't either. Anyway, you still need to learn how to read. From the gen I Pokedex for Pidgeot:
