i hate RSE - the bland colors, horrible spritework, and crappy music puts me off immensely
FRLG was pretty nice for that first nostalgia trip, I know i'm gonna get shit for saying this, but i thought it was "comfy".
Collesuem was interesting and double battles are certainly fun but it was frustrating when i was younger
Gale of Darkness improved upon Colleseum's forumla but it sucked how they shoved half of the game's Shadow Pokemon in the final area and gave all the legendary birds to the final boss
Gen III TCG was neat, featured some of my favorite cards, the Castform ones

i hate gen 3. the mon selection for the first half of the game is boring as fuck imo. only interesting mon you can add to your team before like the third/fourth gym is breloom. there is unironically too much water after lilycove. it could have worked well if the water routes were more broken up but having them all together is monotonous and boring and also made diving worse.

2003-04 had one of the most, if not the most, balanced metagames for the TCG. Sadly, there are a few staple cards that are really expensive so it's hard to build retro decks from that era.

My favorite regions are Kanto and Hoenn precisely because everything is interconnected and you feel like solving a giant puzzle little by little, which feels much more like an adventure than other regions that feel much more linear. This, along with the variety of landscapes, also made the illusion of the world being bigger than it actually was.
In any case, you have to actually like the designs of a given region's mons to actually enjoy the region while travelling with them, and i like the exotic/mysterious feel of Hoennmons the most.

About the genwar insult, sorry about that, it's just that since i've been lurking /vp/ i feel like Gen IV has been shilled/overrated the most and i think they tried way too hard to be cool with designs like Rampardos, Luxray, Garchomp, Dusknoir, etc.
