The PU tier is essentially the "yellow badge" of competitive Pokemon. Say goodbye to your favorite shitmon such as Mudsdale, Pidgeot, and Lycanroc because the Great Cleansing has arrived and Pokemon shall become pure again. The non-evolved Pokemon (such as Rockruff) will be confined to cages suspended above flames so they can get burnt but still live until they evolve and get thrown into execution chambers or strapped to deathbeds for euthanization (if bipedal like midnight Lycanroc).

It's slow, it has no reliable recovery, it has a shallow movepool. Its use as a tank is undercut by the fact that it has no recovery, it's use as a wallbreaker is compromised by its low speed.
Its other abilities are useless, Stamina is only ever helpful when you've managed to remove every single source of special attacks, burns, and toxic.

It can't run a band with sneaky pebbles; if it forgoes the band its attacks become quite gutless. Because of its shallow movepool, it becomes very predictable. Every Musdale ever is running EQ, Close Combat, and Heavy Slam.
It does hit hard, but not hard enough to really be spectacular. As a pure wallbreaker, it is outperformed by Crabominable, Aggron, and even Flareon. Without recovery, its durability means it gets back the turn it looses for being so slow, and not much else. Its utility movepool consists of pebbles and toxic.
It can't set up. It can't exert any pressure beyond its immediate threat. it's a statbrick without the ability to really put those stats to use, in a universe where shit like Slaking exists.

Just so we're clear Musdale is a powerhouse but it moves too slow to actually use that power. Yes Stamina can raise its DEF every time it takes a hit. The only problem is that not only does it have to be able to survive hits from physical gods but it also has to survive the S.ATK gods as well. Which can describe A LOT of pokemon. It takes too many resources to make Musdale a threat unlike something like Lando-T that is good by virtue of the fact that it exists.

It'd probably dethrone Hippo in UU if it got recovery and Stealth Rocks, specially now that Gliscor seems to be climbing to OU and Ice Fang will become less valuable.
It has better Spdef than Hippo who pretty much single handedly sits on every Electric type that relies on Hidden Power grass/ice and destroys them if running max Spdef so that's pretty useful.
Sand is good but outside of breaking some sashes and denying leftovers it doesn't benefit Hippo as much as it benefits its teammates so if you want a stand alone wall Stamina would turn some 2HKOs into absolute nightmares to nail, trying to u-turn or deal chip damage would just turn most physical attackers into univable options to force it out outside of stuff like Crawdaunt.
Mudsdale would be pretty fucking good with those moves but I doubt it'll ever get recovery since this ability is too damn good.
As for OU, I don't think the metagame would be kind to it, Smogonlion can force it out with hp ice, all the Tapus besides Koko should buttfuck it, stuff like Celesteela, Kartana, Greninja and Magearna can use it as fodder, and it can't even check Toxic Zygarde but hey being good in UU is pretty damn good nowadays considering how high the powercreep got.

Speed has been the most important stat since Gen 1. Since Gen IV, typing became more important than stats so you can no longer wall based on stats alone. If it isn't fast or has priority, it needs enough bulk to at least tank a neutral hit without being OHKO. Then, it needs to run recovery.
No Pokemon can succeed being a slow offensive tank without priority or recovery. Slow offensive tank can be done - see Mamoswine - but it needs priority. Mudsdale doesn't have that.

Speed mattered once you took out the Steel-type walls (Forretress, Skarmory, Steelix), Miltank and Snorlax. There wasn't enough offense to overcome every bulky Pokemon running recovery in Leftovers.

It's bad because it has no recovery outside of Rest. If it got Slack Off as an egg move from Hippowdon or something it would probably see use. Those Defense raises are meaningless when its HP just gets chipped away so easily.

Whatever peculiar niches a shitmon could fill would be mostly dependent on the relevancy of certain movesets, playstyles, or other things. If, somehow, conditions are ever such that Mudsdale could properly utilize its ability and stats in higher tiers, regardless of its lack of reliable recovery, then go for it. However, this would likely only be temporary, and everyone would return to the consistency of Hippowdon and Meme Lion (not to mention that they would probably also still be present at the same time as Mudsdale, they're just that good). The fact of the matter is that there are lots of mons that serve similar/same purposes, with differences between them resulting in some outclassing others and being more generally reliable. This is partly what tiers are for.

I'll start with the very first mon on the list- Abomasnow. Give it a Sash and it's a great check to Sash Garchomp. Not only does Hail break Sash, it also breaks Sturdy, and ruins Multiscale Dragonite. It's a niche

Good strategy (team & type composition, movesets & abilities, items, switching, prediction, calculation, awareness of meta) is something that falls entirely on players. Niche shitmons could absolutely win against a player who isn't as good as the user, especially if the opponent plays like shit. However, if two equally competent players were fighting each other and one was using strange and niche shitmons, the one with the disgusting OU copypasta team would likely win. Unless of course both players are shit, but then it's just a fiesta of misplays and strangeness at that point.

that's why sash abomasnow isn't exactly making waves in ou usage statistics. niche in this context means it can specifically suit one purpose, which MIGHT be needed sometimes. meanwhile, it's shit at everything else. once that specific deed has been done, it's just dead weight. competent play with good mons could take care of the problem just as well as some weirdo pu set without hogging a teamslot to be used once and do basically nothing else.

I fully agree with you there, and I'm not saying PU mons are all as viable as OU mons (when they aren't), I'm just saying that judging all PU mons to be shit (which is what anon did) can bite you in the ass, hard.

PU mons need more support than OU mons. That's why OU mons are better, because they are much better on their own or fill a specific purpose better. Doesn't mean you can't throw a PU mon with unique moves, ability and or/typing in the mix of your team that consists of OU mons alike-- and make it work really well and beat the crap out of opponents.

Any super effective attack destroys its poor defenses.
With the right sets, Pokemon like Lando-T can fuck it up with a Z-Crystal, even with their major weaknesses.

Abomasnow serves no use in OU. If you want a good, bulky, and powerful weather setter that can support many roles, use Tyranitar.

OP if you want to use "PU shitmon" in higher tiers then go for it, some stuff is perfectly viable it's just placed low because it's not used often enough. Kinda fun because people don't expect it. I went through a period of using Weezing on an OU team and it was pretty solid

There's no point in doing this, really. If you win against someone using something that has an all-around better alternative, that's on them. They probably would've lost regardless of the snowflake pick vs the stronk pick. Meanwhile, a good player might beat you as a result of the lesser mon not being as good as its alternatives. All this does is break the monotony, which is fine, but to say that it's a good idea when you're against actual players who can counterplay properly and not confused troglodytes is wrong.

To be fair, Weezing is okay because it fits its role well enough to not get shit on. There's a certain threshold of reliable niche-filling that separates okay PU mons from bad PU mons. Mudsdale is essentially in the PU of PU at the moment.

One Ice attack and it's KOed. Revenge kills are pretty great too, when Sash is intact.
Chomp is a good lead. Sash ensures it can get a Swords Dance or SR off and either sweep or support the team.

This. There are so many pokemon that seem good in theory, but a defensive pokemon will almost never be that great unless it has reliable recovery. Most of the time huge defensive stats will still only turn a 2HKO to a 3 or 4HKO, which is why eviolite isn't that great in practice.
