For the 3DS though, no, it wasn't. The only thing that could be considered as having reasonably fallen to this is Triple and Rotation battles, but even then that's something that could have been worked on.
It's understandable to some extent to want to put your best foot forward so the fact that they used the full HD models in Gen 6 and 7 makes some sense but not where it damaged gameplay.
When they saw the 3DS couldn't handle them, they should have had Creatures put those on the backburner for the future and made scaled down versions of the models more appropriate for the system and they stupidly didn't meaning Gen 7 saw the removal of the battle styles instead which was totally avoidable.
